Salma Hayek’s Brother Crashes $100,000-worth Ford GT onto a Truck

It seemed like just another jackass on a sports car driving and crashing it, but authorities were in for a surprise as soon as they start investigating. As the police checked on a sports car that slammed into a truck along the Bel-Air are of Sunset Boulevard in Los Angeles, they found out it was 40-year-old furniture designer, Sami Hayek, the brother of popular actress Salma that was behind the wheel of that 2006 Ford GT that lost control.

Further investigations revealed that the sports car lost control, crossed into the west bound lanes of Sunset Boulevard before it finally crashed with a 2011 Toyota Tacoma. The Los Angeles Police Department also found Hayek’s male passenger, 43-year-old Ian Cuttler Sala of New York, died at the scene of the accident. A known photographer in the entertainment industry, Cuttler won a Grammy Award for best art direction ffor the movie “Johnny Cash: The Legend” box set music package. As for Sayek, he only suffered several broken ribs as well as a laceration to his head.

On the other hand, 20-year-old Alvin Gomez of Los Angeles suffered a broken foot and complained of body pain. He happened to be the driver of the Tacoma that Hayek and his Cuttler collided head on to. Both Hayek and Gomez were taken to the Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center in Westwood. Because of what happened to him, Gomez can actually file a personal injury claim against Hayek, a Los Angeles car accident attorney said. This could help him pay for the damages caused by the accident to his truck, pay for the hospital bills that he has incurred and will continue to incur in the next few days to weeks, and as compensation for the pain and suffering that the accident caused him and his family.

It is no secret that the $130,000 Ford GT sports car Hayek was driving is powerful enough to reach a top speed of over 205 mph. However, for now, the police department is still investigating as to what really caused Hayek to lose control of the vehicle. That is why the LAPD is encouraging everybody who has knowledge about the accident to please contact the West Traffic Division Detectives, Officer Tirella or Officer Hutchings at (213) 473-0234 to help resolve the case immediately.

Stressing the Obvious: Why You Should Never Drink and Drive?

Having alcohol in one’s system is very important. For one, alcoholic beverages are a great source of food energy. In fact, a gram of alcohol can provide up to 7.1 kcal and a milliliter of it provides 5.6 kcal. However, alcohol also has its negative effects. For one, it can cause one person to get intoxicated and dehydrated. Intoxication leaves someone in euphoria and a decrease of social inhibition. More than that, one can also suffer impairments of balance, muscle coordination, as well as one’s decision-making capability. That is why under California’s state laws and other laws implemented in the country that prohibits driving under the influence of alcohol. A lawyer for auto accident in Los Angeles believes that this will help minimize if not completely avoid accidents caused by impaired driving.

Some People Never Learn

Despite these laws strictly implemented by the government, impaired driving-caused mishaps continue to happen. Just recently, a driver crashed his/her car in a utility pole, knocking out power to a large area in the area; the driver is allegedly drunk. The suspect fled the scene after his/her car hit the pole. Authorities are still seeking information about the driver, and if he/she has suffered injuries because of the accident. What is clear though is the persistence of irresponsible drivers, operating vehicles. These people do not only put their lives in unnecessary danger but also of other innocent individuals that they are sharing the road with.

The Numbers Don’t Lie

According to data released by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), 3,371 people were killed because of drunk driving-caused crashes in 2011 alone. 1,612 of these people who died were mere passengers on board the drunk drivers’ vehicle. 1,049 of those who were killed were innocent motorist that got involved in a crash with a drunk driver. 710 of those were bystanders, pedestrians, or bicyclists. Just a few percentage of those who died were the drunk drivers themselves. These, as pointed out by an attorney for auto accident in Los Angeles are indeed alarming.

Vehicle Safety Checklist Before Driving Out This Summer

Vehicle Safety Checklist Before Driving Out This Summer

The summer months, particularly July and August, are said to be the most dangerous times to drive for American motorists. In fact, in the latest statistical data provided by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), at least 3,149 motor vehicle crash deaths occurred in July of 2011. At least 2,982, meanwhile, were killed in August of 2011.

The chances of a fatalcrash increase during these months because more motorists are out on the road driving more miles than any other time of the year. Given that these are summer months, motorists are making the most of this opportunity to enjoy the great outdoors where they go camping, swimming, fishing, and the like.

While vehicle accidents and subsequent injuries and deaths are usually caused by speeding, driving under the influence and distracted driving, there are other reasons why they happen, especially during the summer months. One of them is vehicle failure, which often happens if an important vehicle equipment does not perform well as it should be, leading to consequences that would ultimately lead to a crash.

If you are planning a trip to a summer destination with your family and/or friends, it is important that the vehicle you will be using is optimally capable of withstanding long-hour drives. As such, it would imperative on your part to have your vehicle checked with your licensed mechanic days before your scheduled trip.
